July 29, 2012

This week has been busy! A couple more storms (typhoons), walking in calf deep water at times, lots of appointments, lots of meetings, etc. etc. The other day I gave a link for the Death To Hipsters video to a member. Now the whole ward over here has watched it. It's kind of funny hearing people hum part of it or sing a bit of it when I'm over there. People kept saying "Man you looked way weird!" And I'd reply: "Opo! at pagkatapos sa mission, ulit!" or "Yep! And after the mission I will again!" The other day I was offered to eat dog for the first time. Luckily it was just a birthday party and there was tons of food so I didn't feel bad when I turned it down. I want to avoid having to eat dog as much as possible. I've already had duck fetus since I've been here (which actually was pretty good.) The other day I was also at a members house for a dinner appointment when their drunk brother in law came in. He loved to talk to me since I'm white. Gotta say, I have never cared to be dark until I saw a drunk guy here. They speak in a couple languages muddled together and do not leave you alone. Anyways, the highlight was when he was leaving he went through 3 of the wrong doors until he found the right one and said: "Sorry, I have been liqour." I thought it was just since he was speaking English that he messed up, but then he repeated it in Tagalog. Anyways, Things are good over here. I had Krispy Kreme the other day which was awesome. And I'm healthy and happy! Hope to hear from you guys soon! Love you!

July 22, 2012

Alright, this week was busy as usual. We started having storms over this way. Many of the streets were flooded, but we walked through them as always! Wet socks, shoes and other articles of clothing. I'm so glad plastic bags exist, other wise all my books and everything else I have on me would get destroyed. The only thing my umbrella really protects is my glasses from getting too wet. The rain is nice because it's a lot cooler out now. Of course it's humid, but when it rains it's just a bit cooler! One thing I've learned is that when it's really hot and humid out, it means it'll rain pretty soon. However, I like the rain so it's all good. Lots of progressing people, lots of people becoming better, lots of people returning, lots of people making their first covenants, service projects, meetings, exchanges, and all that other good stuff. Meaning that I'm exhausted. But it's all good. I'd rather be busy than be not doing anything. There won't be any pictures uploaded this week due to the fact that the computer shop I'm at doesn't have a USB hook up. But there will be a few next week. I got 2 letters this week. One from Suzy and one from Heather. I'll be mailing out the replies today sometime. Anyways, I love you guys! You guys have a good week. And write as always! Out! Oh and by the way, the spiders here are huge! It's pretty rad!

July 15, 2012

I'm sorry about not posting last week. The computer shop I was at was kinda bad. Internet connection sucked and it was hard for me to get to it. I shouldn't make excuses, but there it is. This week, like every week was busy. Lots of appointments, funeral, exchanges, interviews, and all that other good stuff. Tired every day! Woo! The other day I was in a Jeepney and they stated playing Stairway to Heaven. Funny because that's the first time I've heard Stairway to Heaven in a couple years. That song is great, but for the most part I can only listen to it so often, especially after teaching that song to others. For those that play piano, Stairway to Heaven is to guitar as Fur Elise is to piano. I've realized I have the WORST farmers tan in the world right now. It's worse than it every was back home. I had krispy kreme doughnuts this week... Oh man was it good. I could only eat one or two because of how heavy the sugar was. I'm going to have a lot of trouble eating when I come home. Probably get sick! I think I'm going to list a couple people who I've written back to just so they know I have. I'm not sure if they've gotten to you yet or not, but I wanna at least give you the heads up that I have written back: Skwiss, Suzy, Chloe, Memo, Jordan Ross, Shannon, The Kinmans, The Frances/Thomas, Heather Celis, Ryan/CJ, The Mathov's, and I think that's about it. If you're not mentioned here and you have written me, reminder that it can take up to 6 weeks for me to get something. And can take up to 6 weeks for you to get a reply. Anyways, love you guys, have a great week, I have a Descendents song stuck in my head, and I'll talk to you next week. Warriors come out to play.

Transfer and new area for Nate

Alright, so now I'm in a completely new area and it's great! I can't mention where on here, but if you wanna know you can ask my parents. It's more of a city like area which is nice for me as all of you should know, I'm more of a city kid. My new companion is great. He's American as well, which is good as 4th of July is coming up this week. The people in the ward I'm in right now are super nice as well, we get dinner appointments here about every single night. Last night at one members house, I had crab, cake, burgers, spaghetti, rice, drank some coke,  chicken, and more chicken! Yon! My Tagalog has gotten way good according to the people here. Some say I'm fluent, I don't think I'm quite there yet, but I've noticed I've gotten a lot better. I understand what people are saying almost 100% of the time now and my speaking has gotten better. That also means I'm having more trouble with English. The other day I met an American guy and he started speaking with me in English and I first replied in Tagalog and sometimes had trouble explaining things. That was a bit weird for me. But anyways, this week has been good. It's been busy, but it's also been fun and interesting. And luckily for me, this new area only has one other dialect! I'll miss my old area and the people there (some cried when I left), but I like this new area a lot already. One thing I've noticed recently is how much more I appreciate what I have. I did before, but it's stronger now. I've gone to homes of people where there house is the size of a walk in closet, and they're still happy. It's incredible. I love the people here. I can already tell this will result in my ability to deal with complaining (which was already pretty low), even lower. Be greatful for you got! You're happier when you are! Don't focus on what you don't have, if you do, you'll never be satisfied! Anyways I love you guys and keep the letters coming! Fly you fools!
